I was sitting at a red light on my way to work this morning. A little ways ahead of me on the sidewalk was this woman, probably in her early 50's, a little soft and saggy, wearing only a sports bra and spandex shorts.
..
And headphones.
..
She would speedwalk 5 steps, then stop and TOTALLY BOOGIE DOWN. I'm talking arms above her head, pelvic thrusting, swinging her hair around, saggy skin shaking this way and that. Then she would speed walk a few more steps, and repeat the dancing jubilee. She was singing the words to whatever song she was listening to, and was completely oblivious to all the people who were totally staring at her.
..
I laughed out loud and watched her until the light turned green, and I was sort of embarrassed for her. Until I realized how awesome it is that she didn't give a hoot what anyone was thinking about her. She wasn't self conscious of her 50 year old body or her 30 year old dance moves. She was doing what she wanted, and having fun while doing it.
..
So I'm actually feeling a little bit jealous of the crazy half dressed street-dancing lady.
Just a little bit.

What an honor to be the first person to comment on what is sure to become a very popular blog! Thanks, Nikki, for giving me the sneak preview. I love it, as always, and am looking forward to many posts to come.
And liberal use of words like "spandex," "saggy," and "jubilee."
You know I love that.
Keem 'em coming!
Sincerely,
Forever anonymous
:)
Wow, that must have been a sight. She is either truely crazy, or she has a great sence of pride in who she is no matter the saggy, and jigglies.
Too funny either way! Love the new blog!
umm, I can actually spell. (just read my comment again) ugghh!
Amanda,
Thanks for the comments! I went and looked at your blog and your profile says you're a therapist? What kind? I'm starting a Master's program in August in Marital and Family Therapy, and would love to talk to you if you're doing something similar.
The Amanda that is the therapist is the other Amanda that commented on the newer post. =) You have 2 amanda blog stalkers!! =)
Haha!
Okay, that's funny. I totally looked at the other Amanda's profile from the other comment, and just assumed this was from the same amanda! Funny.
I just went and looked at your blog (cute, by the way!), and noticed that under "industry" it says "accounting." Pretty much the complete opposite of therapy! haha.
Thanks for clarifying :) And for adding me to your blog list!
I am totally doing that on my walk tomorrow morning!! Get moving and shake some fat around. Hot!!
That is awesome! There have been times I've danced/ran but it was on a private trail where I was sure nobody would see me! I love seeing people who are not afraid of what others think. I often feel guilty when I judge someone too quickly, just because of how they act. My new motto is "Who gives a hoot!" If you ever see her again, yell out a "You go Girl!" for me!
P.S. Love your blog! Thanks for all the inspirational quotes and such! I found you through Cammi Marquardt and I just wanted to say hi!
cute story about the saggy lady. It kinda reminds me of the little golden book, The Saggy Baggy Elephant. Cute read for Taylen.
This reminds me of my favorite Jr. High experince. One day all the kids on the bus were talking about the crazy lady in the neighborhood who walked around like she was doing "the swim" dance moves.
It was my Mom.
Hooray for soft women who can boogie.
It was your mom!! HAHAHAH!!
That is so awesome. Seriously just made my day. :) Give your mom a high five for me.
shan & andrew,
Thanks for the comment. I will totally give her a "You go girl" for ya. Actually, I just might jump out of the car and do a little wiggling myself. haha. Glad you found my blog! I hope to hear more from you!
Nikki,
I just saw your comments. I was actually confused for a moment, because I didn't notice that I hadn't written the comments on this post!
Yes, I am a therapist. I just graduated in a Masters program from the U of Utah. Utah doesn't have MFT's anymore, but we have what are called LPC's (what I graduated in). They are the same thing.
I L.O.V.E. what I do. You can email me sometime and we can chat about it. Email amandaq@securitynational.com
Again, love the blog,
Amanda (the therapist)
I love the blog Nikki! I am always envious of those who show no worries about what others are thinking! I on am completely opposite. I try so hard not to let it rule my world, but sometimes I let it get in the way. I have had a really hard time living here because of it! I feel like I don't fit in. That is my trial in life. That and potty training. ARGHHHH! Jack just peed all over the chair. Do you have any cute stories about peeing?
TOO MANY AMANDAS!! haha. Therapist Amanda, I will be emailing you soon.
Tammi, thanks for your comment. I think everyone struggles from time to time with what other people think. It's just human nature. And moving to a completely new place like you guys did would be hard for anyone. It's hard to make yourself believe that it doesn't matter what people think, because it does, in a way. We all want to be liked, and have friends, and feel good about ourselves. Thanks for your comment.
And I definitely have A LOT of peeing stories...but not all of them are cute. And not all of them are about my kids. haha.
