Priority

Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option.

Why do we do this to ourselves? I'm sure each of us can think of at least one relationship we've been in where this was the case. What is it that allows us to settle? Something to think about...

Happy Monday. :)

I have been needing to hear this quote.

My best girl friend stopped keeping in touch with me about a year ago and I really miss her friendship. I have been putting so much effort into our friendship for the past year, but she keeps blowing me off.

I think it is natural to try and hold on to relationships that once made you happy. Then when they turn bad you keep holding out, just waiting and hoping that the happiness will return.
It's a terrible feeling to put someone first and then have them put you last.

I'm so over it.

Gosh there are so many "psychology" answers that go into answering this question (i.e., their childhood, their relationship with parents, the lessons taught by parents, past experiences, how vulnerable they are in life at the moment, etc.). Mostly I think it boils down to the level of a person's self esteem/self respect on settling for someone treating them like that for an extended period of time. At first, though, I think it's natural to want to give the other person the benefit of the doubt, like a friend for example that all of a sudden stopped being their friend (like the previous person's comment), and so wants things to go back to the way they were...and believes they can based on how it really WAS before. But that's when the self respect should step in and say, "enough is enough. I'm done being treated this way." It's all in how long a person has the tolerance to be treated poorly.

And the person doing the stepping on usually does it cuz they CAN. When the person they are treating with less of a priority doesn't tell them no, then it makes it okay for them to do it.
